Elegante was created in 2007 by María Torres and Gonçalo Guerreiro in the city
of Coruña in Galicia. The company was born from the necessity of creating a
plastic, poetic and universal language which did not rely exclusively on text.
create visual performances, based on the rigorous investigation of gestures,
suggestions of the movements and the eloquence of the images.
Elefante Elegante finds its origins in an experimental project which began in
the year 2000 under the name of Teatro Escondido. This project traveled seven
years between Belgium, Galicia and Portugal and included artists from various
European countries. On stage each actor spoke his own language, which led us to
develop the dramatic situations through physical attitudes . These years of
experimentation with the universality of the theatrical language established
the base for the birth of the Elefante Elegante Theatre.
the Elefante Elegante still collaborates with artists of different origins so
as to keep alive the dialogue and interchange of different mindsets.
creations have been warmly received in Galicia, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland,
Italy, and France.
