Through the endearing relationship between the teacher Don Gregorio and the boy Pardal, the story of the protagonist’s childhood fascination with the unknown and the suffering caused by the suppression of human freedoms is revealed. The learning process that the boy undertakes at the hand of the schoolmaster (a figure who symbolises the freedom that knowledge generates) is also a witness to the tragedy of living in fear and the harsh impact of the outbreak of civil war. The show combines the stories of two of Manuel Rivas’ writings (“El lenguaje de las mariposas” and “La trayectoria de la pelota”). The aim, to make the message clear by playing with the images and visual poetics contained in the author’s stories.
