Granito

In homage to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Galician painter  Laxeiro (1908-2008), this creation is the result of an experimental work developed and presented at the Museum of Fine Arts of A Coruña. The audience is invited to accompany the actors, dancers and musicians in their interaction with the different spaces of the museum where the different atmospheres created bring Laxeiro’s universe to life.

Far from a direct reproduction of the paintings, GRANITO tries to leave the viewer with a sensory impression that brings him/her closer to Laxeiro’s universe. Based on the painter’s colours and textures, GRANITO starts from his main themes – carnival, popular festivals, puppets, peasant life, the underworld, madness, birth and death – and presents different scenes in movement in which Galician popular and contemporary life enter in dialogue.

GRANITO reflects Laxeiro’s stylistic diversity and seeks to apply his attitude to painting on stage: “Galician painting is universal painting. And if it is not, it is not Galician painting”.
